App Focus: Flappy Bird

wpid-Screenshot_2014-01-29-21-57-07.pngWait right there. Only read this and download the game if you willingly want to be frustrated and for something to question your gaming abilities.

It is insanely addictive.

Flappy Bird has taken the smartphone game by storm. It’s incredibly basic, has limited controls, quite rubbish graphics (those that’d resemble a Playstation One or a Gameboy Advance) and quite a basic format.

However, this doesn’t prevent it from being an all round fun game to play. These past few weeks have seen the popularity of this game soar…

It’s incredibly difficult to play a single game for prolonged periods of time. This is because it is genuinely challenging for most users; causing it to become annoying and thus makes the user want to try again and again.

Voila! Addiction is born. I can’t stop playing it.

Such a simple game but everyone seems to be loving it – .GEARS Studios should ride the wave and push out another game mode and ease comparing high scores by making it less Google reliant (such as via FB/Twitter etc). They also need to introduce something trivial (that wouldn’t impact game performance) such as customising your Flappy Bird.

Wow, that sounds like such an odd thing to say.

It resembles GCopter, the old-school Flash game but with slightly modified controls.

All-in-all, it’s fast, small, convenient and simple. All that a smartphone game should be… right?

I see this fad dying out pretty soon, so you might as well download it while it’s still hot.

Simplicity wins here.

Rating: 6/10

You’ll understand why I’ve rated it as such. It’s a love hate relationship.
